Cousins Sean Cannon and Billy Sullivan wrestled for Team Suples/USA in Stara Zagora, Bulgaria, on April 7 and 8 at the Dinko Petrov Memorial.

The international tournament was in freestyle and Greco-Roman for FILA cadets.

Teams participated from Bulgaria, Turkey, Russia, Greece, Macedonia, Sweden, Denmark and the United States.

Sean went 4-1 in Greco-Roman for the USA, taking the silver medal.

Billy wrestled in a feature bout against the Bulgarian youth champion in a freestyle match and won.

He was given an award by the Bulgarian Wrestling Federation for being the youngest wrestler from the United States to compete in Bulgaria.

Sean is a student at Green Valley High School. He is the son of Joe and Claire Cannon of Henderson.

Billy is a student at Frias Elementary School. He is the son of Bill and Kassandra Sullivan of Las Vegas.

Both boys wrestle for Team GV, Green Valley High School's youth program.

Matthew Shaver has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. A 2008 graduate of Green Valley High School, Shaver is the son of Dawn Shaver of Gilbert, Ariz., and brother of Andrea Shaver of North Las Vegas.

Joshua Hill has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio on Jan. 6.

Hill received distinction as an honor graduate who achieved excellence in dorm and drill performance, physical training, war skills and military studies.

He also earned a marksmanship ribbon.

Hill is serving in the 6th Air Mobility Wing at MacDill Air Force Base in Florida.

A 2011 graduate of Sierra Vista High School, Hill is the son of Mark and Esther Hill of Las Vegas and grandson of Humberto and Delfina Linares of Las Vegas and Patricia Jeffries of New Meadows, Idaho.

Evelyn Blomquist, 10, has been chosen as a state finalist in the National American Miss Nevada Pageant scheduled for July 7-8 at the JW Marriott. Evelyn will participate in the pre-teen division.

The winner of the pageant will receive a $1,000 cash award, a crown and banner, roses, air transportation to compete in the national pageant in California and two VIP tickets to Disneyland.

Evelyn enjoys dancing, acting, singing, synchronized swimming and playing piano. She is a fifth-grader at Gilbert Elementary School and the daughter of Brad and Linda Blomquist of Las Vegas.

James Pasley, 14, made the Nevada State Trapshooting Team for 2011 in the sub-junior category.

At the Nevada State Trapshoot in Reno, James tied for the handicap championship and was awarded the championship belt buckle.

He also was the high all-around class D champion shooting more than 3,000 targets to qualify for the state team.

At the 2012 State Shoot in Las Vegas, James won the Class C championship. He is a member of the Amateur Trapshooting Association and the Silver State Scholastic Clays.

A freshman at Desert Oasis High School, James is the son of Jim and Deena Pasley of Las Vegas.

Trinisha Dupree, 17, has been awarded a four-year tuition scholarship to Berea College in Berea, Ky. The scholarship is valued at more than $100,000.

The college admits students based on academic achievement, community service, leadership potential and financial need.

Dupree, a senior at Nevada Connections Academy, is the daughter of Trinth and Andrea Dupree of Las Vegas.

Jahmal Bakare and Antoinette Adams received scholarships from the Jester Hairston Music Association during their 20th annual scholarship concert, "A Tribute to Jester Hairston."

The association is dedicated to preserving traditional music that has suffered neglect.

Bakare, a tenor, is a student of Alphonse Anderson. Adams, a cellist, is a student at Cimarron-Memorial High School.

Both students performed at the concert.

Immar Alvarenga has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. A 2009 graduate of Shadow Ridge High School, Alvarenga is the son of Jose and Sandra Alvarenga of Las Vegas.
