UNLV student union reopens after bomb threat
Updated February 10, 2022 - 12:45 pm
The UNLV Student Union was briefly evacuated Thursday morning due to an unsubstantiated bomb threat made by a person who attempted to rob a bank inside the building, according to police.
At 11:05 a.m., University Police Services tweeted: “Bomb Threat received Student Union.”
“Avoid the area until further notice,” police said.
UNLV later said in a news release that an attempted robbery of a U.S. Bank location inside the building led to a person being taken into custody by police. The university said that while the suspect was being arrested, the person “made reference to a bomb in the UNLV Student Union.”
“The building was immediately evacuated out of an abundance of caution to allow university police to sweep the facility,” UNLV said, adding that it was quickly confirmed that there was no threat to public safety.
Within 20 minutes police said the building was reopened.
“Police confirm there is NO longer an active threat at the Student Union,” police tweeted. “Building is open. Resume normal activities.”
Thank you to @unlv and @UPDSouth for their quick action today to keep the campus community safe. I am glad to see the situation has been resolved. https://t.co/xUK90C7Ts2
