Pedestrians hit, hospitalized after high-speed chase in Henderson
Three pedestrians were injured, two critically, after being struck by an SUV that ran a red light Sunday in the southeast valley, according to Henderson police.
The crash happened after a high-speed chase by officers, Henderson Police Department spokesman Rod Pena said.
About 1:30 p.m., an officer spotted a white Chevrolet Suburban at Collins Drive and Westminster Way and checked the license plates, and “it showed as being stolen,” Pena said. The officer tried to pull over the driver, but the SUV took off, Pena said.
At some point officers stopped chasing the SUV, “due to high speeds,” he said.
The SUV drove north on South Boulder Highway, approaching the intersection with East Lake Mead Parkway, about a mile from the attempted traffic stop. It ran a red light at the intersection and hit three of the seven pedestrians who were using a crosswalk, Pena said.
“Obviously, he had no concern for the health and welfare of anybody to just go through a red light,” Pena said.
Two women, ages 20 and 62, and a man, 56, were taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center. The man and the 20-year-old woman were in critical condition Sunday night, according to a police release. The 62-year-old woman suffered minor injuries.
Police are still looking for the driver of the SUV, which fled the scene. The SUV had an Arizona license plate, BCN1433, the release said.
