1 dies in southeast valley crash

One person died Monday after a fatal crash in the southeast valley, Las Vegas police said.

The crash happened at 2:38 p.m. near Russell Road and Lamb Boulevard.

Sgt. Richard Strader of the accident investigation section’s fatal detail said the collision occurred when a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox SUV was heading west on Russell and tried to turn left onto Lamb in front of a motorcycle.

Police believe a 25-year-old man riding a 2014 was Yamaha motorcycle was speeding toward the intersection, but investigators were still examining evidence from the scene, Strader said.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene by arriving paramedics. The 73-year-old man driving the SUV was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center with minor injuries.

The identity of the motorcyclist will be released by the Clark County coroner’s office once family has been notified.

This is the 50th traffic-related fatality in the Metro’s jurisdiction in 2014
