1 injured in Thursday night house fire in western Las Vegas
One person was injured and five people were displaced after a Thursday night house fire.
Las Vegas firefighters had to abandon efforts to extinguish the fire at 132 Huntly Road from the inside of the home because the blaze was “too far along” to be safe, according to fire spokesman Tim Szymanski.
Units responded about 9:20 p.m. to the blaze near Buffalo and Westcliff drives.
A neighbor, who saw the fire, said the homeowner was trying to go up the stairs and extinguish the flames with a garden hose. The neighbor, a retired wildland firefighter, told the homeowner that they should leave.
One person was taken the hospital and treated for minor smoke inhalation.
Another person was believed to be trapped in the second story of the home, Szymanski said, but firefighters were ordered out of the building because of concerns the second floor would collapse.
Crews re-entered the home after the fire was knocked down to search for the missing person, but they were later told that the person had left the home earlier that night without telling anyone.
The fire gutted the second floor of the home and damaged the roof, causing an estimated $125,000 in damage.
American Red Cross is assisting the five occupants who were displaced. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
