Bicyclist killed after collision with truck in south Las Vegas

A bicyclist died early Thursday morning after she was hit by a truck in the south valley.

The woman was struck near Warm Springs Road and Eastern Avenue about 7:30 a.m. and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Las Vegas police spokesperson Laura Meltzer.

The 32-year-old bicyclist was traveling in a crosswalk on East Warm Springs Road when a service truck turned right onto Eastern Avenue. The rider of the mountain bike had veered, and the truck and bicyclist collided.

According to police, the Peterbilt truck traveled over the bicyclist before stopping. The driver remained at the scene and reported the crash to authorities.

Southbound Eastern had been closed just south of the intersection, Meltzer said. The Nevada Department of Transportation reported on Tiwtter the accident was cleared just before 10 a.m.

The woman’s identity will be released by the Clark County coroner’s office when her next of kin have been notified.
