Child saved from drowning at northwest valley home
A child nearly drowned Saturday in a northwest Las Vegas backyard pool but was saved by parents who knew CPR.
A fire captain arrived on scene after the child was revived by parents and breathing, and he noted that the parents' abilities "made the difference," Las Vegas Fire & Rescue spokesman Tim Szymanski said.
At the time of the incident, the family was swimming and one of the children took in too much water. Even though the child was revived by parents on scene, Fire & Rescue workers took the child to the hospital for a breathing check, as is routine with any near drowning incident.
The incident is also a reminder of the A-B-C-Ds of drowning prevention, he said. The children had A -- Adult supervision and C -- someone who had CPR training. B stands for barriers and D for prevention devices.
