County offices closed Jan. 2, but taxes still due

County government offices will be closed Monday to observe the New Year's holiday, but property taxes are still due that day.

There's a 10-day cushion to make a payment before the treasurer's office will consider the payment late and assess a penalty, which means those paying their property taxes technically have until Jan. 12, though County Treasurer Laura Fitzpatrick encourages people to get their payments in sooner.

Payments can be made by mail, through online bill paying banking services, by telephone, in person or at the office's drive-up drop box.

Fitzpatrick clarified information appearing in an advertisement in Sunday's Las Vegas Review-Journal.

"The ad was more of a courtesy to let people know the office would be closed before they drove down here that day," Fitzpatrick said. "Maybe we need to word it better next time."

The treasurer's office is on the first floor of the Clark County Government Center, 500 S. Grand Central Parkway, and is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
