Dining pick of the week: Acapulco Mexican Restaurant

All of us have heard of Acapulco, considered by many to be "The" Mexican tourist city. Having been there twice myself, I can say there is validity to that claim. It's a city of magnificent beaches, nightclubs and restaurants. This small, unobtrusive restaurant named Acapulco isn't near a magnificent beach, but it sure has magnificent food. Enjoy shrimp specialties such as shrimp cocktail, camarones a la diabla (hot sauce) with rancheros sauce, shrimp tostadas or empanizada (breaded fish filet). Other entrees include beef or cheese fajitas, quesadilla, chile rellenos, enchiladas and several soups. Among the tacos are carne asada (steak), marinated pork, chorizo, chicken and tongue. Two of the more truly native tacos are buche (pig esophagus) and cabeza (cow head). Popular sandwiches are milanesa (breaded steak), ham, chicken, tripe, marinated pork, steak and chorizo. Among the featured breakfasts are huevos rancheros or la Mexicana, ham or chorizo with eggs and huevos estrellados. The breakfast burrito is scrambled eggs with choice of ham, bacon, chorizo or potatoes. Seafood entrees begin at $3.99 and sandwiches at $5.99. Acapulco is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday through Sunday. -- Jack Bulavsky
