Dining Pick of the Week: Hougan’s Racing Sandwich Shop

Hougan’s Racing Sandwich Shop

1310 E. Silverado Ranch Blvd. at South Maryland Parkway; 702-538-7546

We love our sandwiches, and so does Hougan’s. Its 8- and 12-inch sandwiches on white rolls revolve around auto racing, starting with Pit Row Specials (hot) and ending with Victory Lane Specials (cold). Among the Victory Lane sandwiches are ham and cheese, roast beef, roast turkey, tuna, three cheese (Provolone, Swiss, white American) and Italian with Provolone, Genoa salami, capicola, peppered ham, lettuce, tomato, onion, oil and vinegar, and spices. Pit Row features Philly cheesesteak, chicken Parmesan Philly, Philly pizza steak and veggie Philly. There are two Super Speedway Burgers: half-pound cheeseburger and pastrami and Swiss burger. Several Racer Specials are Spin Out (eggplant Parmesan), Hit the Wall (meatballs with Provolone and marinara sauce) and Tailgate (Italian sausage, grilled onions, sweet peppers, marinara sauce and Provolone). The Race Fan Favorite is roasted turkey, cranberry sauce, stuffing and mayo, and Junior Race Fan (children’s menu) is choice of peanut butter and jelly, grilled cheese or turkey with juice and cookie. The White Flag Salad is tuna, chopped lettuce, onions and Provolone with sweet or hot peppers, while Checkered Flag is made with turkey. Sandwiches start at $6. Hougan’s is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
