Dining pick of the week: POP’S Pride of Philly Steaks

501 S. Decatur Blvd., 878-6444

POPS is an acronym for Pride of Philly Steaks. And Pop can be proud. These tasty sandwiches are not just close to the real thing, they are the real thing. All ingredients come directly from the City of Brotherly Love, including the 9-inch Amoroso Baking Co. rolls. Each sandwich is made to order, and options include plain, bacon and Swiss, Cheez Whiz, peppers and mushrooms, American cheese, provolone, pepperoni pizza, three cheeses and chili, and even a boneless, pecan-encrusted fried flounder cheese steak with homemade tartar sauce, with or without cheese. Cold hoagies include ham and cheese, turkey and cheese, four cheese vegetarian and the No. 19 with capacola, ham, salami and cheese. Hot grinders include pastrami and cheese, pork barbecue, Italian sausage and breakfast (two eggs, choice of steak, bacon, ham or sausage and cheese). Among the sides are Cheez Whiz fries, sweet potato fries, onion rings, fried okra, fried green beans and pretzels with Cheez Whiz or honey orange butter. Cheese steaks start at $7.99 and sides at $1.95. POP'S is open 24/7.
