Dining Pick of the Week: Roma Garden

5715 S. Pecos Road at Russell Road,
873-1348

You don't need to go to Italy for authentic Italian food when Roma Garden is in your own backyard. The wood-fired pizzas and desserts imported from Italy (tiramisu, tartufo and spumoni) only add to the Italian atmosphere. Entrees are served with potatoes and vegetable of the day or pasta marinara and include chicken or veal Marsala, salmon puttanesca, saltimbocca alla romana, filet mignon with port wine demi glace and classic chicken cacciatore. Among the pastas are spaghetti and meatballs, linguine with manila clams in white wine sauce, lasagna romana, angel hair pomodoro (add chicken or shrimp) and orecchiette vegetariana. Popular pizzas are pepperoni, margherita, Caprese and capricciosa with ham, mushrooms, marinated artichokes and black olives. Featured luncheon sandwiches are Italian sausage, Black Angus burgers, New York steak and Italiano with assorted Italian cold cuts and provolone. There are appetizers (fried calamari, shrimp scampi) and salads such as Caesar and Roma Garden with corn, Gorgonzola and walnuts. The tasty wedding soup is made with chicken broth, meatballs, spinach and pasta. Entrees start at $11.95 and pizzas at $8.95. Roma Garden is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday and 2 to 10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. - Jack Bulavsky
