Dining pick of the week: San Francisco Style Sourdough Eatery

2530 St. Rose Parkway, 489-7373

Every city is known for some type of food. I don't know what it is here ---- perhaps the buffet ---- but mention San Francisco, and without hesitation, the answer is sourdough bread. At this eatery, hot and cold deli-style sandwiches are made with sourdough or, if you prefer, wheat or rye. Sandwiches include Italian dry salami, turkey, tuna salad, BLT, Reuben, veggie (lettuce, cucumber, peppers, carrots, tomatoes), pastrami and turkey, Hickory (smoked garlic pesto turkey), Russian (roast beef and turkey), ham and roast beef, and Italian made with cotto salami, pepperoni and mozzarella with balsamic vinegar and olive oil. The sandwiches come as half (4 inches), regular (5 inches) and large (7 inches) and are made with a special sourdough spread, Swiss, lettuce and pickle. There are salads (Greek, Italian) and soups featuring the sourdough bread bowl filled with the soup of the day. Specialty sourdough pizzas are cheese, pepperoni and veggie. Among the breakfast sandwiches are the ham, bacon or sausage, where each meat is layered with two eggs and American cheese. Sandwiches begin at $3.99 and breakfast sandwiches at $1.49. San Francisco Style Sourdough Eatery is open from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
