The bruising, ugly and underhanded campaign being waged in North Las Vegas Ward 4 by Wade Wagner against his opponent, Councilman Richard Cherchio, has plunged local politics in North Las Vegas to a new low.
Mayor Shari Buck and previous North Las Vegas Mayor Mike Montandon have jumped on Wagner's bandwagon where venom is being spewed by the police and firefighter unions. The police union has erected signs warning that these questionable civil servant representatives, even though they continue to work, cannot "guarantee" safety any longer, as if the citizens of North Las Vegas have ever had a "guarantee" of safety in the first place. What clearly exists is an unholy alliance between a handful of LDS "good old guys."
Montandon as North Las Vegas mayor was on watch when the city begin to crumble right before Buck took office, and Buck's blind vision for North Las Vegas has been a car wreck for all of us , as she continues to find ways to undermine her own city council. Such was the case when Buck helped to scuttle the near-deal with the world-class consultant Gensler, contrary to the will of the council majority. Success follows Gensler wherever it goes, but Buck undermined the master plan project for the city . Buck suffers from vision myopia. She has no imagination or long-range plan for North Las Vegas.
Wagner's highly worthy opponent for the Ward 4 seat is Richard Cherchio. Cherchio is a person of great energy and character with a dynamic vision for North Las Vegas. In fact, Cherchio was a leader in the effort to bring Gensler on board . Cherchio is a full-time councilman who dedicates all of his waking hours to the citizens of North Las Vegas. Cherchio is an outstanding public servant who has been bashed by a foul and perverted campaign in which Buck and Wagner would be the beneficiaries should Cherchio be defeated. The citizens of North Las Vegas cannot allow Wagner, Montandon, Buck and the police and firefighters' unions to prevail. Cherchio must be the winner in the upcoming Ward 4 precinct election.
