As Earth's magnetic polarity shifts, North Pole switching to South Pole, reality twists and history is rewritten in William Holt's sci-fi thriller "The Impossible Madness." Five strangers realize they alone remember a shared past and see fleeting glimpses of the future.
Holt, a Las Vegas native, grew up a few miles from the Strip. He uses his hiking journeys in the valley's outskirts as settings in his book. The one-time University of Nevada, Las Vegas, English and then applied physics major dropped out and became a cab driver before taking up writing.

Trevor asked, "What about the fact that we all remember the same changes, Darren? Most of us wouldn't have our tidy little stashes of cash if it weren't for our 'insights.' We didn't just imagine it all at the same time, unless that's what you're driving at."
Darren responded, "Maybe yes, maybe no. Simply realizing that the laws of the universe don't apply to our small group isn't enough for me anymore. You can't find answers in a world where the rules don't apply.
"Let's think about it. We have too many different operating hypotheses. Some are unrelated to each other, and some even contradict each other. For instance, we have Winston, here, who did due diligence and discovered over time that the only document on any type of medium that hasn't changed is the Holy Bible..."
