BASKETBALL CAMP PLANNED FOR JUNE

Foothill Falcon Basketball is planning to hold its summer basketball camp from June 10 to 13.

GREAT STRIDES 5K WALK TO BENEFIT
THE CYSTIC FIBROSIS FOUNDATION

The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is planning the Great Strides 5K walk on Saturday at UNLV. Registration for the walk is set for 7:30 a.m., and the walk is to begin at 9 a.m. All proceeds are to benefit the Nevada Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and provide support for research, care and education program.

NONPROFIT MEDICAL GROUP PLANS
5K RUN AND WALK

Volunteers in Medicine of Southern Nevada has announced its Fight for Health Super Hero 5K Run and Walk, set from 6 a.m. to noon May 11 at the Las Vegas Shakespeare Company, 821 Las Vegas Blvd. North, routing through downtown Las Vegas to the future site of VMSN’s downtown flagship clinic.

All walkers and runners are encouraged to dress as superheroes for the event. All registrants are to receive a complimentary T-shirt, and the first 200 people are to receive a superhero cape. Prizes are planned for the best costume, best team comic representation, most creative costume and best kids costume for children 13 or younger. The costume contest is set for 8 a.m.

Proceeds from the charity run and walk will go toward the organization’s clinic operations and to the Florence Nightingale Fund.

CHARITY GOLF TOURNAMENT PLANNED
for saturday AT WILDHORSE GOLF CLUB

The Conservation District of Southern Nevada’s second annual Charity Golf Tournament is planned for Saturday at Wildhorse Golf Club, 2100 W. Warm Springs Road.

Tax-deductible contributions will support the event and support district efforts to educate students and provide projects with lasting benefit to the quality of life in Southern Nevada. All funds, minus the club fees, are to go to the district.

A door-prize raffle and prizes for the top three players and for the longest drive are planned. The cost is $350 per foursome or $100 per person.

TWO OFF-ROAD RACING EVENTS PLANNED
AT ORLEANS arena

Two off-road racing events, GEICO Endurocross and GEICO Mini Moto, are set to return May 3 and 5 to the Orleans Arena, 4500 W. Tropicana Ave.

GEICO EnduroCross is an indoor off-road race. The racing format is similar to a supercross event, using a starting gate, class heats and a series of qualifying rounds for the main event. Obstacles include boulders, rock fields, poles, sand, jumps and water sections. Racers from the United States and Europe are to participate.

GEICO Mini Moto is a mini-bike race featuring traditional supercross competitors racing on smaller 50cc and 100cc bikes. Participants are to include talented adult and youth riders from across the United States.

Endurocross is set for 8 p.m. May 3, and Mini Moto at 5 p.m. May 5. Endurocross tickets start at $37, and general admission Mini Moto tickets are $15.

MAYOR’S HEALTH WALK COMING

UNITED WAY PLANS GOLF BENEFIT

The second annual NV Energy — IBEW 396 United Way Golf Benefit is set for 6:30 a.m. May 21 at Silverstone Golf Club, 8600 Cupp Drive.

SIGN UP FOR SUMMER CAMPS

The city of Las Vegas invites parents to enroll children in summer day camp programs at six area community centers. Open registration is ongoing at several locations until the camps are full.

Online registration and telephone registration will not be available for summer camps. Registration must be done in person. All locations will have limited enrollment. Contact each location for details.

Summer camps are scheduled for 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday beginning June 10. There will be no camp July 4.

Age-appropriate activities, including field trips, sports, special events, physical fitness and games, arts and crafts and nutrition training are planned under the supervision of trained staff members.

The following four locations will offer summer camps, priced at $75 per child for the week and $70 for additional children in the family:

n Cimarron Rose Community Center, 5591 N. Cimarron Road, 702-229-1607. Ages 6 to 11. Camp ends Aug. 23.

Participants will enjoy a new recreation experience every week, community outings, sports, games, arts and crafts, swimming and movies. The cost is $75 per child for the week and $70 for each additional child in the family. Registration for this program is set to open from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday. SHRINERS golf tournament
PLANNED FOR OCTOBER AT TPC summerlin

The 2013 Shriners Hospitals for Children Open golf tournament is planned for Oct. 14-20 at TPC Summerlin, 1700 Village Center Circle. The Shriners Hospitals for Children Open is an official PGA Tour event. The 2013 tournament is set to feature more than 130 PGA Tour professionals competing for a $6 million purse, with a winner’s share of $1,080,000. All proceeds will benefit Shriners Hospitals for Children.

The event’s fourth annual Women’s Day luncheon, Kick Off Your Heels, is planned for Oct. 15. It will be catered and feature a guest speaker. Tickets are $125 per guest. The luncheon sold out in 2012, so early purchases are encouraged.

HUMANA GUIDANCE CENTERS SPONSOR WALKING GROUPS

Humana Guidance Centers are offering free walking groups led by a certified personal trainer. The program aims to positively impact seniors’ health by motivating and engaging them to take action and improve their fitness level and mental outlook by learning the proper walking and stretching techniques.

Participants will receive a free pedometer and at the end of each outing can upload their steps at a Guidance Center computer kiosk or at home to tracks steps taken, distance and calories burned.

TEAM IN TRAINING BEGINS
FOR LEUKEMIA & LYMPHOMA SOCIETY

The Southern Nevada office of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society announces its 2013 season of Team In Training, which teaches participants to complete half and full marathons while raising money and community awareness about blood cancers.

More than 50 participants are committing to run the Nike Women’s Marathon Half on Sunday in Washington, D.C., or the Rock ‘n’ Roll San Diego Marathon & Half Marathon June 2.

Participants hope to raise, on average, $3,000 each to support the organization and run in the races dedicated to LLS.

The North Las Vegas recreation division’s activity schedule of classes, sports and recreation programs is available.

GIRLS ON THE RUN OF LAS VEGAS
SEEKS TEAM MEMBERS

Girls on the Run of Las Vegas is looking to start a team of girls in third through fifth grade in northwest Las Vegas and Summerlin. The group forwards a youth development program, where girls meet twice a week for discussions regarding empowerment, self-confidence and healthy living. The group incorporates stretching, games and running during that time. At the end of the 12-week program, the entire Las Vegas chapter gets together for a 5K race.
