Cannery to add bonuses to Laps For Charity event

The Laps For Charity fundraiser benefiting the Las Vegas Chapter of Speedway Children's Charity is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, 7000 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Participants are set to drive their personal cars around the speedway at 75 miles per hour behind a pace car.

The event entry fee is $30 for three laps along the track.

The Cannery, 2121 E. Craig Road, plans to provide a free T-shirt or sweat shirt to each participating driver. Each driver is also to receive a choice of $10 in free slot play or $25 table games match play and 50 percent off the purchase of any entrée in the casino's restaurants through midnight Sunday .

For every Laps for Charity attendee who signs up for the Cannery's Player's Club card or who presents their existing card, the Cannery Casino plans to donate up to $20 of the cash value of the member's points earned on Jan. 29.

Archery is coming to the South Point

The 2012 National Field Archery Association's World Archery Festival is scheduled for Feb. 10-12 at the South Point, 9777 Las Vegas Blvd. South.

The event is expected to feature the latest bows, arrows, accessories, optics, videos, clothing and targets.

A shooting competition with a three-spot 20-yard "Vegas Round" also is scheduled.

SoBe Ice Arena offering free skate night

In honor of National Skating Month, SoBe Ice Arena, 2400 N. Rancho Drive, is encouraging guests to get on the ice with free skate rentals and group lessons for skaters of all ability levels from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Monday . Skaters 3 or older are encouraged to participate, and games and prizes will be awarded to participants. Reservations are not necessary. Public skate is normally $6.50, and skate rental is $3. Residents able to 'try the y' free

In an effort to remove barriers and help everyone in the community get moving, the YMCA of Southern Nevada plans to offer its "Try the Y" promotion to prospective members through Feb. 24.

Southern Nevadans can "discover, play and be active" for two weeks free at the organization's four locations.

To "Try the Y," visit lasvegasymca.org and download a coupon for two weeks free, plus no joining fee, a savings up to $75.
