The Las Vegas Rock Reunion Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony & Concert will feature an all-day music festival highlighting 20 local bands from the 1960s and 1970s. Proceeds are slated to benefit Safe Nest and music scholarships for the Coral Academy of Science Charter School.

Young performers plan free show
at Cadillac Ranch at Town Square

The Future Stars Showcase, featuring young performers from around the Las Vegas Valley, will showcase their skills at 1 p.m. Sunday at Cadillac Ranch in Town Square Las Vegas, 6605 Las Vegas Blvd. South.

The performers range in age from 9 to 20 and have experience working with Las Vegas showroom acts such as Clint Holmes, Kelly Clinton and Shades of Sinatra.

The group is directed by Fortgang Music Productions.

Nevada Conservatory Theatre
plans to perform ‘Noises off’

The Nevada Conservatory Theatre at UNLV presents Michael Frayn’s “Noises Off” from Friday through May 8 in the Judy Bayley Theatre on the campus of UNLV, 4505 S. Maryland Parkway.

Performances are at 8 p.m. Friday, Saturday and May 5, 6, and 7, with matinees at 2 p.m. Sunday and May 8 . Tickets are $20 to $30 and on sale at the UNLV Performing Arts Center box office. Special rates are available for groups of 15 or more.

Box office hours are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Local residents can get discounted tickets to ‘Matsuri’ at Imperial Palace

From now until May 31, local residents can purchase tickets to “Matsuri,” a production of 15 Japanese acrobats, gymnasts, dancers and comedians who perform at Imperial Palace, for only $20, plus box office fees and tax, with a valid Nevada ID.

Since the earthquake and tsunami struck Japan last month, the show has been collecting donations at each performance to assist with relief efforts.

In addition, through May, “Matsuri” will donate $5 for each locals ticket purchased to the American Red Cross. The show already has raised more than $2,000 and hopes to reach $10,000 by the end of May.

“Matsuri” plays at 4 p.m. Saturdays through Wednesdays and 8 p.m. Fridays. Tickets are available at the Imperial Palace box office, at vegas.com or by calling 888-777-7664.

Ken Medema set to perform
at concert for FAmily promise

Internationally known singer-songwriter Ken Medema plans to make his return to Las Vegas to deliver his second benefit concert to raise money for Family Promise of Las Vegas, a nonprofit that helps homeless families in the Las Vegas Valley achieve lasting independence.

The interfaith concert is at 7:30 p.m. May 14 at Community Lutheran Church, 3720 E. Tropicana Ave. Tickets are $25 for general seating and $35 for VIP seating ($30 and $40 at the door). Doors open at 6:30 p.m. to preview the silent auction. All seating is assigned.

Rocks Lounge to feature Leon Russell

The Party on the Rocks concert series plans to host Leon Russell at 9 p.m. Saturday in the Rocks Lounge at the Red Rock Resort, 11011 W. Charleston Blvd.

Russell has had several gold and platinum albums and has won two Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year in 1972 for “The Concert for Bangladesh.” He is well-known for his “Heartbreak Hotel” duet with Willie Nelson and was nominated for a 2011 Grammy Award for his duet with Elton John, “If It Wasn’t for Bad.”

to present ‘They Wrote The Songs’

The Sun City Summerlin Musicmakers are set to perform “They Wrote The Songs” in May at the Starbright Theatre, 2215 Thomas W. Ryan Blvd.

The show will feature selections written by some of the 20th century’s most talented composers, including Berlin, Porter, Rodgers, Hammerstein, Gershwin and Ellington, and will feature dancers, percussion and woodwind instruments.

former review-journal editor’s exhibit open at left of center art gallery

A tribute to the photography of the late Las Vegas Review-Journal assistant city editor Warren Bates is on display at Left of Center Art Gallery, 2207 W. Gowan Road.

The exhibit is called “Road to Zzyzx.” Its images document deserted areas in and around the desert settlement. It is scheduled to run through June 4.

Bates died in April 2010 seven miles outside of the California ghost town of Amboy, more than 130 miles from Las Vegas, when a train broadsided his car. He was 49.
