artist’s cubism exhibit to be displayed at west las vegas arts center

Artist Dayo Adelaja’s “Cubism Juxtaposed” will be on display from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday through April 30 at the West Las Vegas Arts Center Community Gallery, 947 W. Lake Mead Blvd.

The event is free and open to the public. The gallery is closed Sunday through Tuesday. Adelaja is originally from Nigeria, but his murals and sculptures decorate public spaces in West Las Vegas.

Nevada pops to recognize music
from brazil, cuba and mexico

Nevada Pops will join pay homage to music from Brazil to Cuba and Mexico during “Fiesta” at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Artemus W. Ham Concert Hall on the UNLV campus, 4505 S. Maryland Parkway.

Special guest Jose Hernandez, director of Mariachi Sol de Mexico, will assist on arrangements of “South of the Border” and “Maleguena,” a salute to bossa nova king Antonio Carlos Jobim, and other mariachi music.

From now until June 2, the Clark County Museum, 1830 S. Boulder Highway, is hosting a new exhibit, “Pueblo Indian Art: Ongoing Traditions.”

The Sun City Summerlin Musicmakers are set to perform “They Wrote The Songs” in May at the Starbright Theatre, 2215 Thomas W. Ryan Blvd.

former review-journal editor’s exhibit now open at left of center art gallery

A tribute to the photography of the late Las Vegas Review-Journal assistant city editor Warren Bates is on display at Left of Center Art Gallery, 2207 W. Gowan Road.

The exhibit is called “Road to Zzyzx.” Its images document deserted areas in and around the desert settlement. It is scheduled to run through June 4.

Bates died in April 2010 seven miles outside of the California ghost town of Amboy, more than 130 miles from Las Vegas, when a train broadsided his car. He was 49.

at Cadillac Ranch at Town Square

The Future Stars Showcase, featuring young performers from around the Las Vegas Valley, will showcase their skills at 1 p.m. May 1 at Cadillac Ranch in Town Square Las Vegas, 6605 Las Vegas Blvd. South.

The performers range in age from 9 to 20 and have experience working with Las Vegas showroom acts such as Clint Holmes, Kelly Clinton and Shades of Sinatra.

The group is directed by Fortgang Music Productions.

Latin Taste Festival to feature international food, music and more

Latin flavors come alive during the International Latin Taste Festival planned from noon to 10 p.m. Friday through Sunday at Town Square Las Vegas, 6605 Las Vegas Blvd. South.

Enjoy traditional Latin favorites and contemporary dishes from around the world during the three-day festival that includes live music and entertainment, a fun zone for kids, amusement rides and more.
