Variety of summer camps taking registration
June 5 is the final day of the school year for public schools in Clark County, and several local organizations are planning summer camps to keep kids busy and safe until school starts again in August.
CITY OF LAS VEGAS
The city of Las Vegas has summer camps scheduled June 10 to Aug. 16 for children 6 to 15. Camps are scheduled from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and cost $75 per week. Registration must be done in person.
“City of Las Vegas summer camps are popular and do fill up quickly,” said spokeswoman Margaret Kurtz. “Youth enjoy a variety of activities, including the city swimming pools and parks. Registration is limited, so when we’re full, we take a short waiting list, in case of cancellations.”
Participating centers that are still accepting registration are:

CITY OF HENDERSON
The city of Henderson plans to offer a Summer Kids Zone camp for kids 5 to 11 and a Teen Kamp for kids 12 to 15 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, June 10 to Aug. 23.
The Summer Kids Zone is a full-day program with daily activities, including fitness and health, arts and crafts, drama, music, swimming, games, field trips and more.
Registration is $99, and discounts are available for families with multiple kids. A $20 deposit holds a child’s spot for any week, and the balance is due on the Wednesday prior to the camp week. Drop-ins are $27 per day, per child.

Teen Kamp is scheduled from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, June 10 to Aug. 9, at Miller Middle School.
The camp will offer mentoring and leadership activities and a different theme each week. Registration is $110 per week, and discounts are available for families with multiple kids. A $20 deposit holds a child’s spot for any week, and the balance is due on the Wednesday before the camp week.

CLARK COUNTY
Clark County Parks and Recreation plans to host two summer camps July 14-26 at Lee Canyon. Omni Discovery Camp is for kids 8 to 12 and is scheduled July 14-19. On the Edge Adventure Camp is for kids 13 to 15 and is scheduled July 21-26.
Both camps are $400 and include food, lodging in cabins and other supplies for the week. Activities planned include hiking, archery, building campfires, singing, games and more.

BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS OF HENDERSON
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Henderson plans summer programs at most locations June 10 to Aug. 23. The clubs are open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. at most locations. The summer programs are included with annual membership fees of $20 for kids 5 to 12 and $10 for those 13 to 18. Additional weekly fees are required at some of the clubs.
The clubs have activities planned for different age groups of kids from 5 to 18, including arts and crafts, sports, video games, field trips and more. Free lunch will be provided at all clubs except the Southern Highlands Club.
“Our summer program is a truly great, affordable alternative to other summer camps and programs and daycare services that are more expensive,” said Ken Rubeli, CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Henderson. “... It’s perhaps one of the best-kept secrets in town.”

ICAN YOUTH LEADERSHIP CAMP
Issues Concerning Adolescents of Nevada, or ICAN, plans to host its Leadership Camp Aug. 4-10 at Camp Lee Canyon, about 45 miles northwest of the Las Vegas Valley in the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest. The camp consists of speakers, workshops and curriculum to “educate and empower young adults to be self-reliant (and) inspirational peer and community role models,” according to a camp release.
The camp is $275 and includes food, lodging and all materials. The camp is open to kids 11 to 17, and registration is due May 15.

4-H SUMMER CAMPS
The Clark County Cooperative Extension’s 4-H Science, Technology, Engineering & Math (STEM) day camps are scheduled for June. The first day camp, open to youths 7 to 11, is scheduled for June 11-13; the second day camp, open to youths 9 to 14, is scheduled for June 25-27. Both include activities in plant and animal sciences, health and nutrition, computer science and aerospace.
The Clark County Cooperative Extension Southern Area’s 4-H camp is planned at Lake Tahoe July 28-Aug. 2. Registration is open to campers 9 to 15 until the camp is full. A 4-H membership is not required.
During the six days, campers will participate in activities centering on nature, healthy lifestyles, alternative energy, Global Positioning Systems (GPS), rocketry, dramatic arts, leadership and creative arts.
The cost of the camp is $350 and includes transportation, meals and activities.
