A 74-year-old woman was killed in a crash in the western valley Thursday afternoon, Las Vegas police said.

The Metropolitan Police Department said the woman’s vehicle struck a tree after veering across the opposite lanes along West Tropicana Avenue and over a sidewalk just after 4 p.m. Thursday. Authorities said the woman was dead at the scene.

In a statement later Thursday night, police said the crash occurred on Tropicana west of La Cumbre Drive.

Authorities did not release the woman’s name Thursday night.

Traffic along Tropicana in the area was blocked off as authorities investigated the crash.
