Family not hopeful of finding missing brother alive

The family of a man missing since January hasn't given up its search but has lowered its expectations.

"We're looking for his body," said Jeffrey Goldberg, the man's brother.

Keith Goldberg, 54, disappeared Jan. 31 after leaving his east valley apartment for a haircut. He was captured on a surveillance camera at a business near Las Vegas Boulevard South and St. Rose Parkway that morning.

That was the last known picture taken of him.

Jeffrey Goldberg, 59, and his sister, Jodi Goldberg, 47, came to Las Vegas this week to spread the word about their brother.

They're offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to Keith Goldberg's body, which they suspect was dumped somewhere in the valley.

"Police are saying this is highly suspicious," Jodi Goldberg said. "They do believe foul play."

Homicide Lt. Ray Steiber confirmed that his detectives have been involved but released few details on the active case.

"We assisted them on a couple things, but this is still a missing person case," Steiber said.

Jeffrey Goldberg reported his brother missing on Feb. 3 after flying to Las Vegas from the New York area.

The brothers were scheduled to attend a private Super Bowl party at Caesars Palace two days later, but Keith Goldberg didn't show up at the airport, and calls to his cellphone went straight to voice mail.

When Jeffrey Goldberg called Keith Goldberg's employers at the Lucky Cab Co., he found out that his brother had missed several shifts in the previous few days. He immediately called police to file a missing person report.

On Feb. 10, police found Keith Goldberg's car parked on the street outside an apartment complex near Sahara Avenue and Las Vegas Boulevard South.

His family believes that whoever harmed Keith Goldberg left the car there.

Jeffrey Goldberg said nothing was missing from his brother's apartment aside from a computer. His medication, including his insulin, remained at the apartment.

"Keith would have never left that," Jodi Goldberg said. "He was a fanatic about his medication."

There has been no activity in his bank account since Jan. 30, the day before he disappeared. His checkbook was found among his belongings.

Jeffrey and Jodi Goldberg were scheduled to return to the East Coast Wednesday afternoon.

The family will continue to use a Twitter account, @FindKeithG, to provide updates and will contact local and national media, hoping to keep their brother's name in the news.

Keith Goldberg, about 5 feet 6 inches and 155 pounds, has no children and was not married. He moved to Las Vegas four or five years ago to work as a cabdriver.

He doted on his siblings' children and called his mother, who is 80 years old, at least twice a week.

"He was a family man without a family," Jeffrey Goldberg said.

The mother was devastated by the news and is temporarily living with Jodi Goldberg in Virginia.

"She was enjoying her family in the last part of her life," Jeffrey Goldberg said. "What this has done to her hurts me as much as him being missing."
