Fire damages office building in southeast valley

Lightning may have started a fire in the southeast valley that caused an estimated $500,000 in damage to an unoccupied office building at 8575 S. Eastern Ave., near Wigwam Avenue.

Clark County firefighters responded about 3:30 a.m. Wednesday. County and Henderson firefighters took almost two hours to extinguish the blaze, which started in the attic of the building.

Two air-conditioning units collapsed through the roof, but no one was injured.

The cause of the fire was still under investigation, although officials said lightning "may have been a factor."
