Former Las Vegas court worker charged with theft
A former Las Vegas Justice Court worker faces felony theft charges after upwards of $38,000 was embezzled from the traffic division, the Clark County District Attorney’s office revealed Friday.
Stacey Blankenship-Hicks, a former customer service employee, was arrested in Virginia this week on four counts of theft and one count of unlawful acts regarding computers, according to court records.
Court employees noticed suspicious activity with voided traffic court payments after being tipped off through an anonymous letter, according to a police report.
Blankenship-Hicks is accused of pocketing money that should have been paid as fines. In the court computer system, she marked 147 payments totaling $38,067 as voided. Police matched up the timing of the voided payments with cash deposits in Blankenship-Hicks’s bank account.
Blankenship-Hicks was placed on administrative leave in December, and after she was notified of the investigation, the report stated Blankenship fled to Virginia, where she was tracked down Monday.
A preliminary hearing for Blankenship-Hicks is slated for June 25.
