Fourth of July charity race to bring brief street closures

A 5-kilometer charity race will wind through downtown Las Vegas on the morning of the Fourth of July and will result in a series of short street closures.

The Ulti-Man UFC 5K will start and end at the Hogs & Heifers Saloon on North Third Street starting with a 7 a.m. registration and 8 a.m. race time on Friday.

The course includes West Ogden Avenue, Grand Central Parkway and Bonneville Avenue and a portion of Clark Avenue around the Smith Center of the Performing Arts before returning to the starting point via Grand Central and Ogden.

City officials expect portions of streets to be closed between 6 and 11 a.m. for the event and detour signs will be posted.

The race, just over three miles long, will include appearances by UFC fighters Chuck Liddell, Matt Hughes, Forrest Griffin, John Dodson, Tyron Woodley and Joseph Benavidez as well as UFC President Dana White.

The race entry fee is $50 and proceeds from the event will go to UFC Community Works, which supports the Three Square Food Bank, One Drop, the Gay and Lesbian Community Center of Southern Nevada and the Boys & Girls Club of Southern Nevada.
