Henderson to open two new parks Saturday

Henderson is opening two new parks Saturday that are part of the Lake Mead Parkway Trail and Wetlands Trails Connections project.

Ceremonies for Mountain Lake Park and Terrazza Park will start at 8 a.m. at Mountain Lake, 1020 Golda Way off East Lake Mead Parkway west of Lake Las Vegas. Terrazza is at Galleria Drive at Lake Las Vegas Parkway. Both parks are five acres.

Mayor Andy Hafen and Councilwoman Gerri Schroder are scheduled to give opening remarks followed by a ribbon cutting.

The cost of both parks and the Lake Mead Parkway Trail was $11.4 million with funding from the Southern Nevada Public Land Management Act and the Lake Las Vegas Local Improvement District funds. The city has used about $238 million of federal money to build parks, trails and open spaces.

Henderson has nearly 1,200 acres of parks, open space and civic grounds. These are the city’s 59th and 60th parks.
