Las Vegas brush fire contained, officials say

A brush fire that ignited Saturday afternoon east of Sam Boyd Stadium and burned about 84 acres of land was 100 percent contained Sunday morning, Clark County officials said.

No cause was given for how the blaze began in a swampy area near 7000 East Russell Road, east of Broadbent Boulevard. Las Vegas Fire Department officials said the area often burns in the spring. County officials said 84 acres were affected by the fire.

No buildings were threatened in the blaze that began about 3:43 p.m. Saturday.

The Bureau of Land Management, the U.S. Forest Service, National Park Service, Nevada Division of Forestry and Las Vegas police helped fight the fire or contain the blaze. The adjacent wetlands remained open Sunday.
