Fire caused heavy damage to a home in the western Las Vegas Valley early Monday.

Clark County firefighters were on the scene of the fire at 9636 Sound View Avenue near Fort Apache and Flamingo Roads at 5:37 a.m.

“The first arriving engine found a two story, single family dwelling with heavy smoke and flames from one side of the home with the fire extending to the back yard and attic,” Deputy Fire Chief Warren Whitney said.

The fire soon extended through the roof and firefighters were evacuated from the building, Whitney said.

Five people and one cat were accounted for. Two cats died and a third cat was missing.
