Lorenzi Park to reopen Aug. 17 in Las Vegas

A popular urban park in Las Vegas will celebrate a reopening party after
$30 million in renovations.

Lorenzi Park, a 60-acre regional park at Washington Avenue and Twin Lakes Drive, will be the location of the celebration and back-to-school fair on Aug. 17.

The party follows a major renovation that includes a new splash pad, children’s play areas, picnic and shade structures.

In recent years the park has been upgraded with sports courts and a band shell.

The park, on the site purchased in 1912 by French immigrant D.G. Lorenzi, is characterized by two lakes that give it the feel of an urban oasis.

Before becoming a city park, it was also the site of Twin Lakes Lodge, which once played an important role in Nevada culture as a place for people seeking divorce to stay while they gained residency in the state.

Renovations were funded through the Southern Nevada Public Land Management Act.
