Mallard Fillmore to replace Cul de Sac on R-J comic pages

Mallard Fillmore will replace Cul de Sac on the daily and Sunday comic pages of the Review-Journal, beginning with the Monday edition.

Cul de Sac will cease publication at that time because its creator, Richard Thompson, has been stricken with Parkinson's disease and is no longer able to continue the strip, according to Lee Salem, president of Universal Uclick, the company that syndicates Cul de Sac.

Mallard Fillmore was dropped from the Review-Journal in July after scoring poorly in a comic survey conducted by the newspaper in which more than 2,600 readers responded. Since then, however, Mallard fans have made it known that they miss the strip.

"We've heard from a lot of Mallard lovers," Editor Michael Hengel said, "so many, in fact, that they want it back, and we're happy to oblige."
