A 19-year-old driver is accused of reckless driving in a crash that left a pedestrian dead on Monday night, the Metropolitan Police Department said.

The incident occurred at about 7:52 p.m. when a 2007 GMC Sierra traveling north on North Lamb Boulevard at a “high rate of speed” struck the pedestrian, who was crossing Lamb in a marked crosswalk near Elm Avenue, according to a Metro news release.

The pedestrian, described by authorities as a 32-year-old male, was transported to University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the GMC, identified by police as Ibis Acedo, 19, remained at the scene and was not impaired, police said in the release. Acedo was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on reckless driving charges related to the crash.

The pedestrian’s death marked the 158th traffic-related fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction in 2024.
