Man killed in Wednesday traffic accident identified

A 45-year-old man who was killed Wednesday after a car crash was identified Thursday.

Joel Ronia of Las Vegas was driving a 1994 Toyota Corolla west on Desert Inn Road about 6:30 p.m. when he attempted to cross the Rainbow Boulevard intersection during a red light, Las Vegas police said.

The Toyota was struck by a 1989 Ford Bronco driven by a 16-year-old girl turning left onto Rainbow, police said.

Ronia was taken to University Medical Center where he died.

This was the second traffic fatality in the Metropolitan Police Department's jurisdiction in 2012.
