Messages of support for fallen officers, civilian

After tragedy comes the quest for answers.

In the days following Sunday’s ambush that left two Metro officers, a civilian and two shooters dead, questions have been asked: Why did they do it? Could it have been worse? Where do we go from here?

Some of the worst of humanity is showcased following tragedy, as political and other differences divide observers. But much of the best of is found, too, as communities unite and strangers forget their differences.

Many supporters of the victims and their families attended a candlelight vigil on Monday night to honor the fallen. Others took to social media, among the most public of forums, to express their condolences. Starting on Sunday, many profile photos were changed to a picture of a Metro badge with a black bar across it to show support for the fallen. Some people posted their thoughts and prayers to Facebook. Here are some of the messages; to read more posts, click here.

Barb M Baker: RIP Officer Beck, Officer Soldo and Mr. Wilcox. To your families and friends: The pain of loss is something that none can escape, but you don’t have to go through it alone; we share your loss with you…

Yolanda Estrada Shock: Sending prayers to all the family and friends of these three victims. May you all rest in peace and know you will be missed by your loved ones. Thank you for your dedication and for you Mr. Wilcox what a heroic act you did to protect others. God bless you all!!

Acacia Willey: My thoughts and prayers go out to the families and friends of the two fallen officers. This tragic event reminds me a great deal of the four Lakewood officers who were ambushed in a coffee shop while preparing for their shift that day. I lived in Washington State at the time, close to Lakewood and was amazed by the outpouring of support from surrounding law enforcement and the community. Living in Las Vegas now I hope for the same for these two officers whose lives were cut much too short. For them to put the uniform on day after day, risking their life in order to protect the citizens of Las Vegas, that makes them a hero in every sense of the word. Thank you for your service Officer Beck and Soldo. RIP.

Kim Whalen: Life cut way too short. May the angels open the gates to heaven and sing your praises … this IS NOT GOODBYE. Friends and family it’s until you are together again. Hope all the families find some peace and comfort.

Josh Corrington: We as a city have for the most part been collectively mourning the 3 lives lost. It’s outside the city where the politicization of the tragedy is going full speed ahead. But to Officer Alyn Beck and Officer Igor Soldo, and Mr Joseph Wilcox. May your families find comfort in knowing the three are looked upon as heroes in this community tonight. We will mourn as a city, and we will move on as a city.

Cherrie Servocky Burns: Prayers up for each of the families. Such a tragic event, and such heroes are all of them… fly with the angels…. God bless you. Watch over your families as they try to move forward without you.

David Catalán: I’m so sorry for your loss. My heart goes out to the heroes’ families and children.

Lorraine Robins: A senseless tragedy. The 3 victims will be missed and not forgotten. My heart goes out to the families and friends of these 3 brave men.

Margarite De Angelo: My prayers go out to the families of the officers who got shot in las Vegas. May they RIP, they always went by my house. They will be missed by our family, my younger son liked the officers. God bless the families.

Jeff Olson: What a Waste! Our thoughts are with Metro this day….who call are “True Professionals!” I and the entire community stands firm in honor of your dedication and protection of our community! Most important is our committed endeavors to support their dear families during this very unacceptable series of events … We the decent citizens of this community stand with you this day and everyday. May (all) the families know that our committed community stand by them 100%. Now, it is our time to serve you! Respect & Honor!

Ginny Miller: Cannot begin to imagine the pain and heartache. Three brave men I never knew but have an amazing amount of respect. Prayers and peace to their families and friends. God bless

Shereen Davis: What can anyone say? The world is getting to be a dangerous place to live in..A BIG THANK YOU!! to those who lost their lives and all that are helping to make this world a better place. RIP to those we lost, love, and prayers to their families. My heart breaks for the families.
