Motorcyclist dies after collision with pickup truck

A 30-year-old Las Vegas man was killed Friday when his Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle collided with a pickup shortly after 1:50 p.m. at Alexander and Bradley roads, Las Vegas police said.

A person who saw the crash told police the motorcycle was heading east on Alexander Road at a high rate of speed when it struck a 2009 Nissan pickup that was traveling south on Bradley Road.

The pickup was driven by Andres Mercado-Martinez, 45, of Las Vegas.

"After stopping at the posted stop sign, the Nissan proceeded into the intersection where it was struck by the Kawasaki," according to police.

The motorcyclist died at the scene. Neither Mercado-Martinez or his passenger was hurt.

"It appears speed on the part of the motorcycle rider is the cause of this collision," police said. The accident remains under investigation.

It was the 23rd fatal accident this year in the Las Vegas police jurisdiction.
