Motorcyclist dies in Henderson collision

An unidentified motorcycle rider died Wednesday after he collided with a car in Henderson.

Henderson police said a 19-year-old Las Vegas woman was driving south on Eastern Avenue around 1:15 p.m. and struck the northbound motorcycle rider as she attempted to turn left onto Wigwam Parkway.

The motorcycle and its rider then slid across the roadway and struck a 27-year-old Las Vegas man standing near a light pole on the northeast corner. The motorcycle and rider then struck a power box.

Police said the rider then separated from the motorcycle and struck a traffic control power box, knocking out the power to the traffic signals in the intersection. The rider died at the scene.

The pedestrian was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center for treatment. The driver of the car was not injured.

A Las Vegas police officer saw the motorcycle rider traveling at a high speed before the accident. The accident investigation is ongoing.

The Clark County coroner's office will release the victim's name after he has been identified and his family has been notified.

Nine fatal accidents have resulted in 12 deaths in Henderson so far this year.
