A motorcyclist is dead after a collision with a Ford SUV in the northeast valley Friday evening, marking the 108th traffic-related fatality this year, police said.
The crash occurred just before 5 p.m. on North Nellis Boulevard near Goodin Way, several blocks south of Las Vegas Boulevard, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.
Police said that the motorcyclist, driving a Yamaha R6, was southbound on Nellis at a high rate of speed when a northbound Ford Flex made a U-turn in front of the Yamaha. According to a Metro news release, the Yamaha struck the back of the Ford, ejecting the motorcyclist, who was later pronounced dead at the scene.
Metro Lt. Ken Nogle said Friday night that detectives were investigating and trying to determine who was at fault. However, the Flex driver was not suspected of impairment.
The news release, posted late Friday night, said the motorcyclist was a 23-year-old Las Vegas man, but didn’t provide his name. The Clark County coroner’s office was expected to release his identity.
The Ford’s driver was a 50-year-old Las Vegas woman. She wasn’t injured, police said. Two 12-year-old girls were passengers in the Ford Flex at the time of the crash. The girls both suffered minor injuries, police said.
