Motorcyclist injured in crash near The Lakes in western Las Vegas

A 56-year-old California man suffered life-threatening injuries when his motorcycle struck a car near The Lakes community on Thursday evening, Las Vegas police said.

According to a Las Vegas police release, Emelio Garcia of Fontana, California, was riding a 2006 Harley Davidson Road King around 5:55 p.m. when the motorcycle collided with a 2006 Lexus GS. driven by Keenya Hegwood of Las Vegas near West Sahara Avenue and South Lake Sahara Drive.

The motorcycle was heading east on West Sahara in the left travel line approaching a green light at South Lake Sahara Drive, while the Lexus was traveling west on West Sahara in a single left-turn lane approaching a flashing yellow left-turn signal at Lake Sahara Drive.

The Lexus turned left, into the path of the motorcycle. The motorcycle struck the right side of the Lexus, according to the release.

Garcia was taken to University Medical Center where he was in critical condition early Friday.

The Lexus driver remained at the scene of the crash and displayed no signs of impairment.

This collision remains under investigation by the Metropolitan Police Department’s collision investigation eection.
