Motorcyclist killed in crash in south central Las Vegas

Updated December 21, 2019 - 12:05 pm

A 25-year-old motorcyclist was killed Friday afternoon in a crash in the south central Las Vegas Valley, prompting road closures in the area.

The crash, involving the motorcyclist and SUV, was reported at 1:02 p.m. at the intersection of East Warm Springs Road and Tamarus Street.

The male motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene, the Metropolitan Police Department said in a statement Saturday. Police haven’t released his name, pending family notification.

A 2011 Dodge Nitro was turning left from Tamarus Street onto East Warm Springs Road after stopping at a stop sign, police said in the statement.

As the SUV was turning, a Yamaha FZ6 motorcycle was traveling on East Warm Springs Road approaching the intersection “at a high rate of speed,” police said.

The motorcycle overturned and the driver fell from the motorcycle and struck the left side of the Dodge, according to police. The unoccupied motorcycle continued to slide on West Warm Springs Road before stopping at the intersection with Abbeyville Drive.

The driver of the SUV remained on scene and didn’t show any signs of impairment, police said.

It was the 103rd traffic-related death this year within the Metropolitan Police Department’s jurisdiction. The crash remains under investigation.
