Motorcyclist killed in crash was 22-year-old
The motorcyclist who died after striking a pickup Monday night has been identified as Daniel Nathan Vogel, 22, of Las Vegas.
Witnesses saw Vogel driving a motorcycle at "a high rate of speed" on Ann Road near Rancho Drive, Las Vegas police said. At the intersection of Rio Vista Street, a Ford pickup driven by Lana Loebig made a left turn heading south on Rio Vista, in front of Vogel, police said.
Vogel struck the passenger side of the pickup and was thrown from the motorcycle. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, Eric Blount, 24, also was thrown from the bike. He was hospitalized in serious condition.
The crash remains under investigation, police said. It was the 21st traffic-related fatality in the department's jurisdiction this year.
