North Las Vegas woman dies in single-car crash

A North Las Vegas woman died after her vehicle crashed into a drainage ditch at Clayton Street and Ranch House Road about 3 p.m. Sunday, according to North Las Vegas police.

The unidentified 52-year-old was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt east on Ranch House Road at a high rate of speed, police said.

The street ends at a T-intersection at Clayton. Police said the woman crossed Clayton and crashed through a chain-link fence, landing in the drainage ditch.

She was thrown from the vehicle and hit her head, ultimately dying of her injuries at University Medical Center.

It was the first fatal traffic accident in North Las Vegas this year.

The coroner's office will identify the woman after her family is notified.
