One injured in Lake Mead plane crash
A small single-engine airplane registered to a North Las Vegas man crashed in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area on Friday morning, injuring the pilot and causing a fuel spill and fire.
The plane crashed about 11:30 a.m. near the Temple Bar Marina, on the Arizona side of the park and about a mile from the water, National Park Service spokesman Andrew Muñoz said.
Where the plane was heading and who was on board were unknown, Muñoz said. The extent of the pilot's injuries were unknown.
FAA spokesman Ian Gregor said the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the cause of the crash of the Lancair 320, an experimental amateur-built plane. Records show the aircraft is registered to a Douglas Tyrone of North Las Vegas.
Muñoz said rangers extinguished a fire that broke out after the plane crashed and were working to contain a fuel spill.
