2 motorcyclists killed in overnight Las Vegas Valley crashes
Las Vegas police were investigating two separate crashes that left two motorcyclists dead early Wednesday.
The first crash, which involved a motorcycle and an SUV, occurred just after 12:15 a.m. near Las Vegas Boulevard and Reno Avenue, according to a Metropolitan Police Department press release.
The second crash happened just after 1 a.m. at Charleston Boulevard and Shadow Lane and involved a motorcycle and a Regional Transportation Commission bus, Metro said.
In the first crash, police said a 2002 Yamaha YZFR6 motorcycle heading south on Las Vegas Boulevard went through a red light at Reno and collided with a 1998 Lincoln Navigator.
The motorcyclist, whose identification was pending, police said, was a man between 18 and 25 years old. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Lincoln didn’t report any injuries and showed no signs of impairment, police said.
In the second crash, a 2012 Yamaha FZ8-N motorcycle was heading west on Charleston toward Shadow Lane “at a high rate of speed,” police said. The driver of the bus, which was traveling east on Charleston, made a left turn on a flashing yellow traffic light, “crossing the Yamaha’s path of travel,” a Metro news release said.
The motorcyclist was ejected from the bike and pronounced dead at the scene.
A bus passenger said they were injured and was transported to University Medical Center. The bus driver remained at the scene and wasn’t showing any signs of impairment, police said.
