Pedestrian dies after being struck by pickup on Las Vegas Strip

A portion of the Strip was shut down Monday after a pedestrian was struck and killed by a truck in a hit-and-run.

Las Vegas police said Las Vegas Boulevard South at Harmon Avenue was shut down about 5:30 a.m. Monday as police investigated the accident. It was opened about 11:30 a.m.

Police said a man in his 50s was struck by a late-model Chevrolet pickup with unknown plates.

Police were searching for any information about the driver or the truck.

The man was taken to University Medical Center in critical condition. Police were notified of his death about 9 a.m.

The intersection was shut down in both directions as police investigated. It was unclear whether the man was jaywalking, police said.

The Clark County coroner's office will release the dead man's name.
