Pedestrian killed in northeast Las Vegas Valley crash

Updated May 10, 2024 - 12:06 pm

A pedestrian was killed Friday morning in the northeast Las Vegas Valley.

The crash occurred just before 6:45 a.m. near East Lake Mead Boulevard and North Lamont Street, according to a Metropolitan Police Department news release.

A 2021 Lincoln Navigator was westbound on Lake Mead approaching Lamont when the pedestrian, a 27-year-old Las Vegas man, darted into the roadway southbound.

He was nearly struck by one vehicle and ultimately struck by the Lincoln. The crash redirected the pedestrian to the

roadway as the Lincoln came to a controlled stop, police said.

Arriving emergency medical personnel determined that the pedestrian was beyond resuscitation and ceased life-

saving efforts. The Lincoln driver remained at the crash scene and displayed no impairment.

The pedestrian’s death marked the 62nd traffic-related fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction for 2024. The crash remains under investigation by Metro’s Collision Investigation Section.

In an interview with the Review-Journal on Wednesday, Sheriff Kevin McMahill said reducing carnage on Las Vegas Valley roadways requires a community-wide commitment to safer driving.
