Pedestrian struck, killed on Sahara Avenue

A 60-year-old woman who crossed the street against a traffic signal died early Sunday after being struck by a car, Las Vegas police said.

Her identity was not released.

A 2010 Nissan Altima driven by Mark Schapp, 41, struck the woman about
4:55 a.m. on Sahara Avenue near Arville Street, police said.

The Altima was traveling west on Sahara through the intersection on a green light as the woman was trying to cross Sahara from the south curb to the north curb against a traffic signal, police said.

When she entered the westbound travel lane, she was struck by the Altima. She was pronounced dead at University Medical Center.

The incident marked the 38th traffic fatality under the jurisdiction of Las Vegas police this year.
