Registration open for city downtown ‘poker-run’ tour

The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada invites cyclists to register for its Oct. 13 Downtown Soul Ride, a free, two-hour "poker-run"-style tour.

The ride will reintroduce residents and visitors to the heart of downtown Las Vegas and the new restaurants, museums and attractions the area has to offer.

Riders will gather at the RTC's administrative building, 600 S. Grand Central Parkway, and will be led downtown by Green Girl, a promoter of sustainability who will not only guide the tour but entertain cyclists with her music.

During the ride, cyclists will visit The Smith Center for the Performing Arts, the Mob Museum, The Beat Coffeehouse and Records, Le Thai and the RTC's Bonneville Transit Center. Representatives from each organization will be on location to speak about their contribution to downtown revitalization.

The RTC has had more than 100 cyclists participate in previous rides. The Downtown Soul Ride will provide riders with a playing card at each stop for the poker run. Las Vegas Cyclery will provide free bike rentals and prizes for cyclists.

The ride coincides with Rediscover Downtown Day, an outreach event led by the Downtown Las Vegas Alliance to urge residents to become re-acquainted with the area.

Free parking is available at the RTC administrative building. For more information and to register, go to rtcsnv.com.
