Roger to start police union job next week

Former Clark County District Attorney David Roger on Thursday was officially named general counsel of the Las Vegas Police Protective Association, the largest police union in the state.

Roger will start his new job Monday.

His duties will include representing officers in workers' compensation matters and at Citizen Review Board and civil service board hearings and negotiating collective bargaining agreements.

The union represents more than 2,800 rank-and-file Las Vegas police and corrections officers and city marshals.

Roger said he is honored to represent the men and women of law enforcement.

"I've spent 25 years working with police officers, and I look forward to a new career representing them," Roger said.

Chris Collins, the union's executive director, said, "His experience and legal skills will be an invaluable asset to the men and women who have chosen law enforcement as their careers."

Roger had indicated the union probably would be a landing spot for him after he announced his retirement two months ago. His retirement came three years shy of completing his third term, his last under state term-limits laws.

The Clark County Commission is selecting a district attorney to complete Roger's term.
