Santa should have smooth ride through Southern Nevada skies
Santa should have no problem delivering presents to Las Vegans on his "nice" list tonight, as it's perfect flying weather with all clear skies in the forecast.
Dasher, Dancer and the rest of the reindeer gang will need to be extra careful on their rooftop landings, though, because temperatures are expected to fall near freezing so things could get slippery even without any precipitation.
But with so many years experience in overnight flights, Las Vegas' weather should be no problem for Santa's sleigh. The crew had already successfully delivered gifts throughout Russia and Africa and were making their way through Europe as of Saturday afternoon, Pacific Standard Time, according to the official St. Nick trackers at NORAD.
The North American Aerospace Defense Command, a U.S.-Canadian military organization, started following the bearded man's secret deliveries in 1955. In Colorado Springs, where NORAD is based, a newspaper ad invited kids to call a hotline number to find Santa, but printed the number incorrectly and dozens called the command center instead. The officers on duty used their high-tech military satellites and Santa cams to answer the kids' questions and have since become the official trackers of his sleigh.
NORAD publishes the data on Google Maps, so families can see just how close Santa is to making a stop at their home. Check noradsanta.org to see if you're next on his list.
