Suspect sought in fatal crash at Charleston Boulevard and Arville Street

Las Vegas police are looking for a suspect in connection with the Wednesday night hit-and-run that killed a woman and sent a man to the hospital.

The four-car crash happened shortly after 6:30 p.m. near Charleston Boulevard and Arville Street, Metro Lt. Barb Schmidt said.

The driver of a 1993 GMC Yukon was travelling east on Charleston when it hit the passenger side of an Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera making a turn onto Arville.

The Oldsmobile then hit the wall of Flex, a bar on the southeast corner of the intersection. The Yukon was also redirected and hit another vehicle in the left-turn lane of northbound Arville, pushing it into another vehicle.

Witnesses indicate the driver of the Yukon got out of his vehicle, had a short conversation with the Oldsmobile’s driver, George Applegate, and then went through Flex to leave the scene on foot.

Police are asking for the public’s help in finding the man, who is described as about 6-feet-2-inches tall with a thin build and two shoulder-length hair braids.

The 75-year-old passenger of the Oldsmobile was pronounced dead at University Medical Center. Her identity has not yet been released by the coroner’s office. Applegate, 54, was taken to UMC with moderate injuries.

This is the 31st fatal collision in Metro’s jurisdiction in 2014.
