Teen dies from injuries in ATV rollover in east Las Vegas

A Las Vegas teen was killed and another injured Sunday night in an ATV rollover in a desert area east of the valley.

The teens were riding the all-terrain vehicle about 8:40 p.m. near Hollywood Boulevard north of Kodachrome Road, when the vehicle hit a ditch and launched into the air, according to the Metropolitan Police Department. A 16-year-old passenger, Alejandro Renteria, was pronounced dead at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center.

The cause and manner of death were pending with the Clark County coroner’s office on Monday.

Renteria and the 15-year-old driver were airlifted to the hospital after they were thrown from the vehicle at impact. The surviving teen suffered moderate injuries, police said, and did not appear to be impaired.

The death was the 66th traffic fatality Metro has investigated this year.
